With a few simple and achievable precautions, you can still boost up the battery life.

If your laptop uses a lithium-ion battery, never let the battery drain below 20% and keep its charging percentage between twenty and eighty. These batteries are subject to aging.

If you’re not going to use your laptop for a long period of time, simply keep the battery fifty percent charged, neither more nor less. This will reduce the aging effect. If you leave the battery discharged for a long time, it may lose its charging capacity.

On the other hand, Ni-cd and Ni-MH batteries require complete discharging and complete recharging to improve their overall performance and life.

Other precautions that can be taken are:

  • When you purchase a new laptop, charge it for at least twenty-four hours before use.
  • If your laptop is plugged into the wall, remove its battery.
  • If you’re not going to use your laptop for a long time, remove the battery. You could remove it after charging it to fifty percent to get the best results.
  • If the storage of the battery is done for a prolonged time, try to occasionally charge the battery even if it’s not in use.
  • Store the laptop under normal temperature conditions. Avoid exposing it to extreme hot and cold weathers.
  • Use system settings in order to generate reminders whenever your laptop battery drains below twenty percent.
  • Try preaching airplane mode when you’re not subjected to the use of the internet, Bluetooth, FM radio and NFC sharing.
  • It’s a good idea not to overcharge your laptop. However, it’ll not harm your laptop’s battery if your device runs on a lithium-ion battery.

If the internal circuitry of the battery malfunctions, the laptop may get overcharged and lead to overheating. This is an undesirable action, and one must remove the battery at that moment itself. Another aspect is that lithium battery’s capacity demolishes in cold weather. It must be heated up in order to charge and serve the desired work.
